Prior Position:   Principal, Upper Room Christian School, Dix Hills, NY - 1994–2014

                                               

School Responsibilities:    Headmaster of a private, non-denominational Christian school; grades Pre-K to 12th. Oversee a faculty and staff of 22. Report to: church board. Oversee the educational development of two Chinese Joint-Venture schools.

 

Accomplishments:

 

l Oversee all areas of school administration, including: hiring of school personnel; staff development; curriculum selection, supervision of instruction and staff evaluation; Director of High School Guidance; computer/technology supervision, including hardware/software purchasing decisions; New York State testing administration; planning and implementing technology usage in the classroom; maintain critical school records, including report cards and high school transcripts. Oversee all school finances including payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable.

 

l  Established a cooperative extension program with St. John’s University, making it possible for our students to take up to 10 college classes for St. John’s University credits, on-site, at our school. Some of our students have completed a full semester of college courses while attending Upper Room Christian School.

 

l Implemented a unique College Preparatory 1+3 Program (CPA Program) for international Chinese students, offering them ESL, TOEFL Prep classes, college courses and AP courses in an intensive, one-year college preparatory program.

 

l Developed a partnership with Suffolk County Community College, allowing Upper Room students to take up to 24 college credits through Suffolk’s Early College Program.

 

l Developed a dual enrollment program with Western Suffolk BOCES, allowing our students to take courses at several BOCES schools for high school credits and career training in any of 30 programs offered.

 

l Taught Foundations of Education (EDU1000) and Human Development (EDU1001) as college courses at Upper Room Christian School for St. John’s University credit for the past 16 years as part of a Special and Opportunity Program (cooperative extension program).

 

l  Established one of the largest and most comprehensive Special Education programs of any private K-12 Christian School on Long Island, giving daily Resource Room and speech and language services to as many as 35+ IEP students annually.

 

l Obtained approval from Dept. of Homeland Security to issue I-20s to F-1 foreign exchange students.  Developed successful foreign exchange student program at Upper Room Christian School, bringing students to our school from over 30 countries since 1999.

 

l Worked with high school graduates from 1985 to present to gain college acceptance and college scholarships. 100% of last year’s graduates went on to college, with over $1M in total scholarships.

 

l Made Upper Room Christian School a Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Medal School, offering $60,000 scholarships to one graduate each year (since 2004).

 

 

l Served as President of the Long Island Fellowship of Christian Schools from 2000 to 2010, an association of 14+ Christian schools in the Long Island / New York City area.

 

l Responsible for developing school advertising and recruiting of new students, including developing admissions policy, and conducting personal interviews of all new applicants.

 

l Inaugurated a FACTS Management tuition payment plan and policy that required automatic deduction and monthly payments from checking / saving accounts, thereby increasing total annual revenue.

 

l Implemented school financial aid; formulated annual tuition pricing; multiple child discounts; implemented our “Recruit-A-Family” program that has increased student enrollment. Instrumental in setting up church and school accounting system in QuickBooks Pro.

 

l Oversee application and receipt of major grants from New York State Education department, including NYS Mandated Services aid.

 

l Organized several College Fairs at Upper Room featuring public, private, Christian and secular colleges, including Harvard and Yale Universities.

 

Part time employment: Varsity Tutors September 2018 – present. Provide private tutoring to high school students in SAT and ACT exam preparation; tutoring elementary and middle school students in reading.

 

Recent part-time employment: Cassametta Provisions – Massapequa, NY 2012-2019. Handled accounts receivable in this $10,000,000 per year Boar’s Head distributorship.

 

Prior Employment: Teacher, Upper Room Christian School, 1981-1994. Taught many subjects from grades 5-12, including math, English, science, social studies, especially Global History and U.S. History. Also served as High School Principal and Director of Guidance from September 1989 to June 1994.

 

Prior Employment: (continued) Music Teacher - Our Lady of Lourdes School, West Islip, NY; Our Lady of Lourdes School, Massapequa Park; O.L.P.H. School, Lindenhurst, NY from 1976-1981. Duties included teaching music theory to K-8 students in 3 Catholic schools.
